Self-introduce

My name is YIU CHUNYUAN. I was born in 1984, 12th of december in Taipei. My blood type is O, and my horoscope is Sagittarius. My hobby are shopping, reading, and traveling.

My Family
There are 5 people in my family. My dad is typically male chauvinism who sticks himself into the TV once finish the work and pretends that he lives in the other world and that nothing can make him leave the couch. However, a typical man will deserve a typical woman. My mum is a traditional woman who inherits all the “good” traditions of our Chinese culture. In my memory, I never saw her having a good rest; she seems to be very busy handling the entire house work as well as my younger sister. Sometimes there seems nothing more for her to do but she can still come up with something else and sometimes wired things to do.

On another issue, my mum is quite concerned about my financial needs. Maybe that is the most important things that all Chinese mum care about. I still remember after my first day of job, my mum came up to me and asked me “Hay~How much salary do you get?” Isn’t that in the normal case, the first question is supposed to be something like “Are you tired?” or “How did the work go?” Anyway, I still considered me as a spoiled kid, because I can feel their love and caring all the time. They are good parents.

Talking about my brother, he is still in his adolescence period which makes him always trying being “cool.” By the way, he is another typical Taiwanese teenager who will rather sleep with the computer than bed.

Now it finally comes to the term to introduce the last member in my family, the little trouble maker – my little sister. Her strange ideas and requirements always surprise me. However, she is still that cute, sweet, and naughty just like a kid.

I like my family; I like the feeling of home which I am really belonging to.

Educational Backgroud
The first education institution I went in my life is Fu Xing Elementary School. After that I went to
Fu Ho Junior High School and Tsz-Shiou Senior High School. After graduated from high school, I am luckly to be able to enter the Fu Jen Catholic University. I am now a 2nd year university student now. That is my education background so far in my life.

Like a typical Taiwanese student, I am suffering from the academic pressure from classmates, family and the school. Fortunately, everything went quite well on my study for both elementary and junior high school. After entering the Tsz-Shiou Senior High School, there was a big change in my life. Over there, living in the dorm was a compulsory rule. 12 people shared a single tiny room, which you could never image how crowded it could be. However, the experience there did make me grow and mature. I would never regret to study there. In fact, it provided me many memories and growing opportunities.

University was a totally different environment to me. I still remembered the day of selecting my own faculty and major. I was glad that I was a faithful believer and went to the temple, because I am so lucky to get the last chance of being able to study in mass media. Everything in the university life was quite different and fresh to me. At here, I got to meet lots of people coming from all the parts of Taiwan with all different backgrounds and got the chances to study in something that I like. Now I am still in my second year of university, which also means two more years to go. ^__^ Hope that I can learn a lot and experience a lot in the following years, and I am looking forward to it.

For my future study plan, I am thinking to go to U.S. for my post-graduate studies directly after I complete my course in Taiwan. I am planning to spend two years in U.S. and use all the time and resources I get to do all the studies and things I like. In U.S., studying will not be my only method to learn to grow; I will plan my own trip, rent a car, and travel through all the cities and parks in America. I will not just limit myself only study in the area of mass media. I will also look into other subjects such as design or fashion, which have been one of my dreams since I was young. Anyway, I will study hard and do my best to make all of these come true
. ^^

Traveling experience
I have been to Japan, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, America, and Hong Kong, generally with my parents and siblings on family vacations. The latest trip was to Hong Kong during the summer holiday in July, 2005. It was also the most special tour to me, because it was my first time to travel abroad without my parents or relatives. The entire journey was just like a fairy-tale. The story started in a normal conversation with my friend. He was inviting me to have a trip with him to the southern part of Taiwan, but somehow, Hong Kong ended up as our decided destination instead. Everything happened almost in split seconds, with the hotel, air-tickets, and visa arranged within a day. As if not impressive enough, we also had our entire tour planned out, and within 35 hours of our decision, off we went.

Hong Kong is one of the most crowded countries in the world. There were shops in every corner of the streets, which meant that I had come to my heaven. This trip was different to any of the trip that I have been on before. There was no tour guide to tell me what to do and where to go, we had total control of our own schedule. We could go everywhere we want and do whatever we like to. We also tried all kinds of transportations there, such as tram, train, taxi, subway, and even the airport express. We not only went to all those famous places but also tried to discover and experience the true life style of Hong Kong people. We ate in the local traditional restaurants, and even went to the horse racing-field to experience the feeling of gambling. One of the most exciting places we went was Lan Kwai Fong. Over there, gathered the most beautiful, crazy and exotic bars and clubs, which obviously attracted a lot of foreigners. 70% of them were male looking around for a chick to pick up. We also found a nice lounge bar, and it was playing the music exactly fit for our taste. We ordered some local special cocktails and relaxed ourselves to enjoy this exotic, yet exciting moment.
I had experienced a lot in this trip. Naturally I also got a lot of shopping done. ^__^ I know that this trip will definitely become one of my best memories in my life. Hong Kong~I Love You!! And….. I will be back!!

Working experience
Last summer vacation, I got the first job in my life. I found this job on the internet. This is a big company, but their factory and main offices are in Kaohsiung and China. For Taipei, there is only a small office with only a staff there, and I am an assistant. Due to the simple working environment here, everything becomes quite simple and straight away. No lots of rules to obey and follow, even the working hours are quite fixable. You do not need to go there at eight o’clock sharp and finish work at five p.m. sharp. Instead, as long as you can finish your own job, the length of working hours does not be that important. However there are a lot of new things that I need to learn and be familiar with. This job does not relate to what I do in the university; actually it is a totally new area for me to explore and experience. Well, through this job, I get to know more about the real world and the so-called “society.” I have to go to customer’s company all the time and have meeting with them. Over there, I have to try to negotiate all kind of issues and solve them. Under this circumstance, I have a more clearly picture of what I am going to do in the future. Now I am still doing this job, trying to grow with the company, and trying to learn to be independent.

My Idol
Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey Mariah Carey was one of the most influential people who gave me the motivation to pursue English language study. Always touched and calmed by her lyrical melodies and heart-throbbing voice, Mariah Carey instantly became my favourite singer. Her songs accompanied me through my difficult high school period, whenever I was angry or down, nothing tranquilises me better than her songs. Hence I started to learn Mariah Carey’s songs, and went through every single lyric with dictionary to understand the meaning of the songs. One of my favourite songs was called “Hero”, which I could listen to it again and again and could still not get enough of it. Her story of success was also another stimulus that drove me to learn English. She started as a local country singer, but came to the big city to pursue her dream. Although the journey was tough and long, Mariah Carey never gave up. In all these years, I just wanted to tell her, that she was, and still is, my hero.

Lee-Hong Wang Lee-Hong Wang is m favourite Taiwanese idol. His talent, his music, and his creativity make him the legend of Pop songs in the recording industry in Taiwan. He is the one person, and the only one who successfully combined the western Rhythm & Blue style with elements of traditional Chinese music. One of his great ambitions is to allow the entire world to get to understand and appreciate Chinese culture and music. However, music is not his only strength; he is also well-known for stage-setting, film-directing. A good example of these can be seen in that he writes for and direct his own music video clips. His attitudes toward music and arts never cease to fire up my own ambitions, and he will always be my favourite Taiwanese singer.
